Sean A. Kading
Sean has practiced law in California for more than twenty years with a primary focus on litigation, real estate, and bankruptcy law. After graduating from the University of Southern California, Sean went to work for a boutique litigation firm in Newport Beach specializing in business litigation, bankruptcy, and real estate law, where he honed his skills representing clients in high stakes “bet the company” litigation and guiding them through complex bankruptcy proceedings.
After a brief lateral move to a larger firm, Sean struck out on his own in 2007 opening the Law Offices of Sean A. Kading. As a sole proprietor, Sean's determination and dedication to success built an impressive roster of clients that has included US Bank, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Downey Savings and Loan, Olympus, and other lenders, contractors, and real estate professionals.
As a litigator and bankruptcy lawyer, Sean has seen the aftermath when real estate transactions and development deals don't go as planned. With that intimate knowledge and experience, Sean has provided invaluable consulting services that have helped clients avoid these pitfalls and achieve their development goals through successful planning and risk mitigation.
Sean is also a strong advocate for the protection of vested property rights, most recently he took action to overturn an unlawful short term rental restriction at the Ka’anapali Golf Estates and is currently challenging Maui County’s Short Term Rental Home ordinance.
Sean was admitted in 2000 to practice law in the State of California. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Northern, Central, Eastern, and Southern Districts of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Kading served as a judicial extern to United States District Court Judge John S. Rhoades in the Southern District of California and as a Legislative Intern to United States Senator for Montana, Max Baucus, in 1995, while attending the University of California, San Diego, where he graduated with honors in 1996.
Prior to law school, Sean enjoyed early success as a BMX and mountain bike racer helping pioneer and advance action sports. Sean completed his first real estate development project at the age of 17 as the founder of Electric City BMX, a bicycle motocross race track that has been in operation for more than thirty years. Sean was selected for the cover of the September 2002 edition of Mountain Bike magazine. Sean continues to enjoy mountain biking, hiking, and snowboarding and runs half marathons with his wife, Terrie.
